What is the best material for garden walkways?
Posted on Jul 27, 2009 under Best For Garden |Last year I installed some raised beds in my garden. Between the beds I laid landscaping cloth and covered it pine bark mulch. This year I find that pine bark mulch is a great growing medium for all kinds of stuff, even strawberries. It also floats well and since I garden on a down slope, that’s not too good. What is the best product to use to cover the cloth, hold it in place, not puncture it and won’t grow grass?
spray Round-up on it and cover it with small rocks or chipped rock.

As you have just learned, landscaping fabric doesn’t prevent weeds. Weed seeds blew in and rooted in the bark mulch. The landscaping fabric actually makes it more difficult to remove the weeds because their roots will grow right through it.
First, pull up all of that awful landscape fabric and curse it. Then congratulate yourself for learning a valuable lesson.
Next, plant Dutch white clover in your pathways. It will stay low to the ground, it will block out weeds, it won’t need to be mowed, and it will attract beneficial insects to your garden. It will look great too!
