Planning to plant perennials?
Posted on Mar 11, 2010 under Best Perennials |How exactly do i go about it any special tips? What are the best perennials to plant?
Go to the library and get a book on them.
You can have an herbaceous border (all perennials) start with largest height at back of bed down to small edge plants nearer front. you can fill in with bulbs and Iris.
I like plants that smell nice, but choose what you like from the garden book.
Make sure they grow in your area.
My favorites are Peonies, they bloom spring thru summer and have a beautiful smell, also look great in a vase.

Pick the area. Check your soil. If your soil is hard, dry, compact, you will want to amend it with something like peat moss and/or compost to give the plant roots a great start. You also need to determine how much sunlight the area gets and what growing Zone you are in so you can choose the right perennials to plant. You have more options with full sun perennials. The great thing about perennials is that you can buy plants that flower at different times so you will always have flowers. A couple of my sunny favorites that are low maintenance are daylilies and sedum. They look great in any kind of garden whether it’s a messy type cottage garden or a more formal type of landscaping.
Good luck!
