What are the best perennials to plant for shade areas and areas that receive limited sunlight/morning?

along with what the others said, there are many Ferns to choose from. also some Daylilies do well, Cardinal flower, U could try Coreopsis, Astilbe, Solomons Seal, False Solomon Seal, Foam Flower, Foxglove, Hardy Geranium, (not the red-pink & white ones you see so much of at stores in the spring)
When moving perennials is it best to do it in the spring or in the fall?

My personal favorite for shade is Columbine. They are easy to grow, come in many colors and look natural in wooded areas or open areas. Also cold hardy.
Hosta is also a good choice. The flowers aren’t that showy, but they have nice foliage and do well in full shade.
I would also suggest Bleeding heart,Primrose and Viola

Many of the sites will give you pic & care rules to make it easier to choose what you like by seeing them. Have Fun! From a, "Master Gardener"
