What is the best online store to buy perennials, bulbs, and shrubs?
Posted on Mar 14, 2010 under Best Perennials | 6 CommentsGreatest selection as well as low prices. This is to plan for next spring. Thanks!
I always get them from Brecks. They are based in Holland and I have been very satisfied with them. The flowers have always been big, and the last from year to year.

I would go with Henry Field’s right now: They are running a number of specials, including trees and dahlias.

I like to buy my perennials and shrubs from local garden centers, where I can see that the plant is healthy before I pay for it and bring it home. I have not always had good luck with mail order ones whether purchased from a catalog or online as some have not been healthy when they arrived or they did not grow like they should have from the bare roots.
I like McClure and Zimmerman for bulbs because of all the named varieties that they have. There are other places where they cost less, but you do not always have much choice.

Forest farm is good but like a plant, trial and error comes and goes. Take it with a grain of salt. I would try to stay local because shipping is on the rise. You must have a few nurseries in your area. Bulbs at a home center usually are not expensive. Your states cooperative extension program has your zone chart for sun or shade too. Yahoo groups have many seed and plant swap sites that are great to get stuff cheap. Good luck.

I’m with Tigger, Henry Fields. Prices are always good, they always have good specials (get on their email list) and everything that I planted last year came up and is flourishing!

J Parker Bulbs are good, and they’ve usually got some good offers on like bogof or a free load of begonias with your order etc. For shrubs/Trees I like to go to Buckinghams for bare rooted planting in Autumn – usually good value at a couple of quid upwards depending on the shrub. I got my Crab Apple, Hazels, Blackthorn, Rowan, Bird Cherry, Mahonia and native hedging from them, and everythings thriving, didnt lose a single plant.
