When you first plant something is it best to wait on fertilizing?

Such as perennials, is it best to let them establish themselves before feeding, or does feeding it early get it off to a better start?

use about 1/4 the amount of fert that you usually would

Fertilize them as soon as you plant. I usually mulch, fertilize and then water it in.

You should plant them in fertilized dirt. If you have all ready planted them without fertilizer, just go ahead and get some fertilizer that you mix with water, one that specifies on the container that it’s for your outdoor flowers, and continue to use it as the instructions say. I don’t think you necessarily hurt them by not fertilizing immediately, they probably won’t grow as fast right away, that’s all

for perennials that’s fine… just don’t do it with trees and shrubs…. it’s not a good thing to push them with fertilizer to bloom or do leaves when they’re more in need of time to put down roots……

Don’t fertilize seds or nw seedlings. Either plants seeds in oil that already has fertilizer in it, or wait until the plants are good size, then gently fertilize and provide plenty of water. Too much fertilizer can burn and kill plants if they are not grown out enough.
