Can anyone advise me on the best flower seeds to plant?

Posted on Mar 17, 2010 under Best Seeds |

Please advise me what to plant, here is my brief.
I have 7 Tubs x 18" wide and 4 hanging baskets x 12" wide.
I have last years compost in each.

I want something that is easy and simple, basically throw in and rake the seeds and throw some water their way as required. Something that will be assorted colours, will bloom most of the summer with as little interference as possible.

Impossible? or please advise thanks.

Not impossible at all. If they’ll be in the sun, plant zinnias or cosmos or marigolds in the tubs and trailing nasturtiums in the baskets. Those are all vivid, long blooming, incredibly easy care plants that grow effortlessly from seed. Just keep the soil lightly moist until the seedlings are growing well.

why don’t you go to your local garden centre and buy plants
it will save you a lot of work.that way you will be able to pick what you want.you can buy pellets that retain water for you baskets so you don’t have to water them so much.

What did you grow last year? Visit your local home and garden center and look in the packet seed section. There are usually very good pictures of the flowers on the packets with instructions on how to grow them. Why dont you try growing some vegetables in the larger pots. Tomato, cabbage, cucumber ,squash, okra most vetables can be grown in containers

hi there you can buy seed disks you put the dry disks onto moist compost which are impregnated with flower seeds into your tubs and baskets water and cover with compost and hey oh presto you have a fantastic bloom of flowers all summer long. i used trailing mix and petunia splendid mix, which i got from morrisons supermarket although i have seen them in garden centres.these disks are brill i used them last year in my oblong tubs and cut them to fit as they are really to fit hanging baskets and round tubs if you do this make sure you cut them dry as they go like soggy kitchen roll once there are wet.so easy and cheap you need to so before the end of may for summer blooms.hope this helps

if this is what you want you should plant some wild flowers, all you have to do is throw in the seed rake it,sprinkle some soil on top water
a couple of times and you have a great handful of flowers all summer through half of fall…I would put seed in now while there is still some sign of cold/winter…ok good luck..
