What is the best website for buying heirloom tomato seeds?

What is the best website for buying heirloom tomato seeds? I don’t want to go with Henry Field’s or Gurney’s. I had terrible luck with them last year and I haven’t forgiven them yet. I want a site with a lot of options and a good reputation.

This will be my first year growing all Heirlooms. I ended up with a nice list of companies that sell Heirlooms. Let me list them for you……most of them have paper catalogs, some refuse to and have online ones only. My fav of all time so far is Fedco. The prices are amazing, the selections is also, and for me they are pretty local. So here is a list for you to shop at.

Fedco (my fav)
Botanical Interest Seeds
Amish Land Seeds
Johny’s Selected Seeds
Rene’s Garden Seed
Baker’s Creek
High Mowing Seeds (another one I ended up liking so far)
Seed Savers Exchange (a bit expensive, but worth it)
New Hope Seed Co
Territorial
Tomato Fest Seeds
Heriloom Seeds
Pine Tree Seeds

Just remember not to deal with any company who is run by Monsanto. Greedy money grubbing companies who want to control what we all eat…not a good thing.

Good luck with your garden this year, happy growing ;)

What is the best way to dry seeds from squashes and other veggies ?

I don’t know if it’s the best, and I haven’t grown anything from them yet, but I ordered seeds from them once and received them promptly. And they were featured on Martha Stewart Living (for their melons) so they can’t be that bad? However, this past spring/summer they shut down sales because they were sold out, and if gardening is as popular this year it could happen again, so order early.

Personally if I wanted a heirloom seed that I was confident was really the seed that was advertised I would go to Burpee’s, Harris, or Park while they are known for hybrids they’ve been around a long time and what they sell as Heirloom is also more likely to be what it is said to be, there are a lot of good people out there breeding plants and saving seed, that don’t have the facilities to separate the different varieties, and yes most are satisfied with a nice fruit, just saying the most professonional and quality of what you are buying is from old time places like these.
