What are the best tasting Tomatoes that I can grow myself in the UK?

Home grown toms usualy taste better than shop bought. A reliable favorite for a number of years is called Gardeners Delight, a red cherry tom. with fruits around 25/30mm, a heavy cropper if looked after & a flavour that’s hard to beat! Does best in the greenhouse but will still produce outside in a nice warm spot. Raise your own from seed or bring on bought plants. Lots of info on the web on how to. Good Luck!

Most of the readily available ones like Moneymaker taste good – but they ALL taste good when you pick them warm off the vine & pop them straight in your mouth!

Any heirloom tomato will have a far better taste than standard varieties. I prefer the chocolate cherry in a cherry tomato. I prefer either a strawberry, pineapple or persimmon in a full size tomato. The seeds should be readily available from any seed catalog. Despite the names, these are varieties of the tomato which I have personally grown in my garden.

The best toms were called money markers But you can no longer grow toms any more they are so far gone with g. modified you can no longer call the tomatoes. All soft fruit has gone, try it yourself plums peaches all fruits are hard as apples we do not by any more.Only when we go to the continent.

for small cherry tomatos which you can grow in hanging baskets or pots try these all have RHS award merits
Gold Nugget
. Early ripening trusses of golden-skinned, cherry-sized oval nuggets of a balanced acid/ sweet taste. Early fruits are almost seedless, thin skinned but resists splitting. Best grown outdoors
Sweet Million
A heavy cropping variety, producing luscious, shiny, red cherry-sized fruit that are very sweet and keep well over a long period. Ideal for the greenhouse or a sunny patio. RHS ‘Award of Garden Merit’ winner
For normal salad toms try
Shirley
Matures early, and crops heavily on short jointed plants. Nicely shaped fruits of fine quality. Resistant to T.M.V., leaf mould and Fusarium. Recommended. RHS ‘Award of Garden Merit’ winner.
Golden Sunrise
Cordon (Indeterminate). Golden yellow, medium sized tomatoes which add colour to a salad and have a rich, fruity flavour all of their own
you can grow from seed or buy plants from a good plant nursery or garden centre

My favourite are Tigerella. A medium sized fruit with a distinctive yellow stripe. The seeds are available from most of the usual seed companies. They do best in a greenhouse & have quite a thin skin so supermarkets will not stock the fruit as it is easily damaged.
